SERIES INTRODUCTION

Release Date: DECEMBER 2007

The "All-New" Series 7 GPK were released in the winter of 2007 by Topps, Inc. and distributed in December - eleven months after the "All-New" Series 6 set. The GPK series is comprised of all new artwork by veteran GPK artists John Pound, Tom Bunk and card-back and insert card artwork by Jay Lynch. This series also includes next-generation GPK artists Dave Gross, Brent Engstrom, Luis Diaz, Fred Harper, Layron DeJarnette, Ray Lago, Richard Clark and Neil Camera (insert and card back artwork); and concept artwork by Jeff Zapata (art director), Mark Pingitore, Fred Wheaton, Mark MacAulay, John Williams (supervising editor), including several of the artists listed above; and Colin Walton animated all of the motion cards. For the first print run, each foil pack (with a suggested retail price of $1.99) contains 10 stickers on 14 card stock (with a great gloss finish), and a chance to come across an Activity card (Action Punch-Out card - inserted 1 in every 4 packs), a Motion card (Flix-Pix card - inserted 1 in every 8 packs), a Pop-Up card (inserted 1 in every 6 packs), or a Jig-Saw Puzzle card (inserted 1 in every 6 packs). The set also contains six bonus cards that can be found in special 'bonus boxes' or 'value boxes' and in 'blister packs' that are located at different retail chains. The series once again starts back at number one.

FUN FACTS & TIDBITS

1. The Layron DeJarnette final artwork for cards 36a "Car JACK" and 36b "Scrap Heath" contain respectful nods to The larger GPK Websites currently running online. The concept created by Fred Wheaton was given to DeJarnette to complete and Jeff Zapata (art director) had DeJarnette add all of the names that pay Tribute to GPK. The GPK logo covers some information -- all grafittied information is as follows from left to right, top to bottom: "New Wave DAVE" (1st series Kid, card 30a), "Wayne's GPK" (Wayne Genualdi's GPK website), "Topps" (company name that produces GPK), "GeePeeKay" (Matt Oldwieler's GPK website; Nicodemus), "Jeff" (for Jeff Zapata, GPK art director), "John" (for John Williams, GPK supervising editor), "Lay" (Layron's nickname?), "Cool" (unknown), "GPK Underground" (Cory Pierce's GPK UG message board website), "Barren AARON" (for my GPK website), "Layron" (the artist of the artwork), "GPK World" (either my website with the URL gpkworld.com or Topps' garbagepailkidworld.com website), "Ira" (for Ira Friedman, vice president of Topps and series development for GPK), "Wheaton" (for Fred Wheaton, the concept artist), "Renée" (Fred Wheaton's wife), "ADAM Bomb" (1st series Kid, card 8a).

2
. The First GPK series to have a 110 card base set, the New Mega Packs Series. The OS (orginal series) sets contain base sets up to 88 singles, 44 cards with twins usually on a 132 card sheet -- and the ANS (all-new series) sets contain base sets of 80 singles, 40 cards with twins. The ANS6 Wacky Package Mega Set of 2007 switched to a base set of 80, which would be the equivalent to the base set of the ANS GPK with twins. The ANS WP having a base set of 55 cards in which the new ANS7 set adopted, a total of 110 cards with twins.

3. Artist Dave Gross' final artwork for cards 49a "TYLER Tilt" and 49b "Pinball WILLARD" pays huge respects to the OS (original series) GPK sets from the past. The card contains the 1st series character from cards 8a "ADAM Bomb" and 8b "Blasted BILLY" in the center for the table picture, contains the 2nd series character heads to the right of the picture from cards 44a "SY Clops" and 44b "One-Eyed JACK" next to cards 81a "Split KIT" and 81b "Mixed-Up MITCH", and contains the 3rd series character heads to the left of the picture from cards 110a "Snooty SAM" and 110b "U.S. ARNIE" next to cards 93a "DREW Blood" and 93b "Bustin' DUSTIN".

4. The ANS7 Set was Released during the last week of December in 2007 for the hobby edition, whereas the retail version was released in early 2008; the cards all have a 2008 copyright. The Pop-Up card inserts all have a 2004 copyright and appear to be leftover concept inserts from the ANS3 set.

5. The series has two characters with the Same First Name -- cards 8b "Ol' Faith PHIL" and 30a "Foamy PHIL".

6. The Fourth U.S. GPK Set To Have an official Promo Card, unlike the promo card inlay sheet of the ANS1 which showcased three promo stickers on a peel away ad insert (1 of 3 "Juicy JESS"; 2 of 3 "Disgustin' DUSTIN"; and 3 of 3 "Rad BRAD"), P1 "Dough BOYD" is the fourth official GPK promo card which was released at the San Diego Comic Convention in July of 2007 -- and the second "P1" card. The first promo card being P1 "CHRISTINA Ugliera" from the ANS3 set, the second being P0 "Batty BRAD" from the ANS5 set and the third promo card being P2 "Alien ALAN" from the ANS6 set. The fold-out brochure (pictured above) shows the card with a blue name bar. These promo cards are not die-cut stickers. The first GPK set to have two promo cards within the same release (see number 11 Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 for more information).

7.
For the promotional Advertisement material, both the Fold-Out Brochure and Sell Sheet have the new Tag-Line "MEGA PACKS", including the mock-up Box image. The Promo card back still has the old "GROSS STICKERS" tag-line, and the "SUPER-GROSS STICKERS" tagline has been dropped. Once again, the box arrangement has the GPK logo as a double-lined, banner style header rather than a straight banner which started with ANS6.

8. Per Jeff Zapata, any human 'hand' placed within a piece of artwork is referred to as Mr. Hand ... so the instructions of, "Place Mr. Hand in the painting" is often told to the artists.

9. Artist Luis Diaz's famous LD Monster which can be found in previous ANS GPK sets is pictured in cards 26a "Waft WYATT" and 26b "Windy WENDEL", it's located within the brain matter to the left of the eyes. The artwork also contains two ANS GPK magnets on the microwave, the first being 1 of 9 "Varicose WAYNE" and the second being cut out of the card picture which looks to be 9 of 9 "WILLIAM Won't Tell". The piece of artwork also contains the MUNNY chracter that Diaz created back in 2006 of the 10th series character GPK character 400a "Vericose WAYNE" and 400b "ELAINE Vein" (see 10th series "GPK History" section for more information).

10. The eighteenth series to contain cards with The GPK Acronym found within the artwork. The GPK acronym found on the basketball of cards 3a "Offense SPENCE" and 3b "Rebound ROY"; on the juicer machine of cards 17a "O.J. JOSÉ" and 17b "Juiced JAYDEN"; on the football helmet of cards 23a "Gator ABE" and 23b "We WINNIE"; on the grafittied wall of cards 36a "Car JACK" and 36b "Scrap HEATH "; on the parodied Play-Doh container of cards 41a "Sculpted SCOTT " and 41b "Molded MIGUEL"; on the All-Stars parody shoe (covered by the GPK logo -- can be seen in "Artwork Images") for cards 43a "Walked-On WALKER" and 43b "DENNIS Shoe"; on the book (GPK : Tales of Death) for cards 45a "MANUEL Labor" and 45b "LANDON Scaping"; on the pinball machine of cards 49a "TYLER Tilt" and 49b "Pinball WILLARD"; on the gold necklace chain of cards 51a "BILLY Bling " and 51b "GIL Grill"; and on the bakers hat of cards 55a "Dough BOYD", 55b "Pills BARRY" and P1 "Dough BOYD".

11
. Pt 1. Artist John Pound had talked to John Cafiero, of the Misfits and Osaka Popstar bands several times and it was Cafiero's idea for Pound to paint a Wacky Package bonus sticker that was included in the Osaka Popstar CD with the limited edition "Osaka Pop" Wacky Packages sticker in 2006 (printed on a thick paper stock rather than card stock). The same theme was used with Mark Pingitore's concept theme for cards 38a "Drum KIT" and 38b "Tom TOM" painted by John Pound -- the Osaka Popstar logo can be seen in the background along with the band members.

11. Pt 2. In April 2008, after the release of the ANS7 set, a Special P2 Promo card "Drum KIT" was handed out at the NYCC (New York Comic Con) from April 18th-20th with the "Osaka Popstar" CD tie-in advertisement on the backside. The promo card's "twin" was later released as an exclusive P1 CD premium card "ROCK'em O-Sock'em" within the limited edition "Osaka Popstar" Live EP on May 20th; the poster could also be acquired online at the Osaka Popstar website in August 2008.

12. Card 9a "Deodor BRENT" was Named After Brent Engstrom, the painter of the final artwork, by Jeff Zapata -- the Speed Stick was given the parody name "Speed Lick". Brent Engstrom also gave a nod to Wacky Packages for cards 30a "Foamy PHIL" and 30b "Shave DAVE", a self portrait, by giving the Barbasol shaving cream can a parody name of "Barfasol". In early 2010, Engstrom also had a Speed Stick parody with the same "Speed Lick" name published as a Wacky Package bonus card that was released with the series 5 postcards set.

13. Although the All-New Series GPK (and Original Series GPK after the 9th series) should only have Four Fingers and Four Toes, cards 20a "PARKER Puker" and 20b "Web Head NED" have four fingers and FIVE toes. This phenomenon can also be found in the ANS1 with cards 9a "Cheesy CHARLIE" and 9b "Pizza Face Chase" (and unpublished OS 16th cards 639a "GUY Pie" and 639b "Pepperoni TONI") who has 5 fingers because it was an unpublished OS 2nd conept, which made it into the poster set, that replaced a pulled 16th series images.

14.
The All-New Series 6 Wacky Packages contains the "Garbage Pail Geezers" title, a Parody of the Topps Garbage Pail Kids product. First found as a card front for the ANS5 WP set by artist Dave Gross, and now as part of a card back for card #25 "Trashformers", in which Neil Camera designed the coupon back and additional artwork. Information on the ANS5 WP set card #28 titled "Garbage Pail Geezers" can also be found within the ANS6 GPK "Fun Facts and Tidbits" section.

15. The company name "Topps" can be found on three cards within the ANS7 set. On cards 9a "Deodor BRENT" and 9b "Roll On ROB" located on the deodorant stick container, on cards 36a "Car JACK " and 36b "Scrap HEATH" on the banner to the top of the card (pictured further above), and cards 49a "TYLER Tilt" and 49b "Pinball WILLARD" on the pinball flippers.

16. The Set Contains five pieces of artwork that have the 1st series "ADAM Bomb" and "Blasted BILLY" character --
Cards 3a "Offense SPENCE" and 3b "Rebound ROY" contain the "ADAM Bomb" and "Blasted Billy" emblem image on the basketball, Cards 36a "Car JACK" and 36b "Scrap HEATH" contain the name "ADAM Bomb" grafittied on the wall, cards 44a "Breakin' BRANDON" and 44b "BUSTER Move" which contains the 8a "ADAM Bomb" card single (along with the other 80's nostalgic interests such as He-Man, Transformers' Optimus Prime, and breakdancing), Cards 49a "TYLER Tilt" and 49b "Pinball WILLARD" also contain the "ADAM Bomb" and "Blasted BILLY" character -- the rendered artwork from the OS1 - OS5 wrappers, and on cards 50a "DESIREE Disarray" and 50b "Yard SALLY" which contains the 1st series box with the "ADAM Bomb" and "Blasted BILLY" character.

17. The set contains several Same Names from previous GPK sets: ANS7 card 8b "Ol' Faith PHIL" has the same name as ANS2 card S1b "Ol' Faith PHIL", ANS7 card 11a "Stormy HEATHER" has the same name as 1st series 7a "Stormy HEATHER", ANS7 card 45a "MANUEL Labor" has the same name as 6th series 230a "MANUEL Labor", ANS7 card 46a "Flamin' DAMON" has the same name as 10th series 363b "Flamin' DAMON", ANS7 card 47a "On The MARK" has the same name as 7th series 255a "On The MARK", ANS7 card 51b "GIL Grill" has the same name as 5th series 190b "GIL Grill", ANS7 card 54a "MOLLY Pop" has the same name as ANS5 card 34b "MOLLY Pop".

18.The first series to have 10 Stickers Per Pack, the new Mega Packs -- all previous GPK sets had 5 stickers per pack (not including special insert chase cards of the all-new series sets) - "5 Sticker" packs can also be found for this release. The first ANS wrapper to have a $1.99 price logo.

19. The hard-to-find B2 Bonus Card not often found within the reported bonus box was generously offered through Topps for a limited time through June and July 2008 by filling out a Redemption form found on the company website and mailing it in to Topps. This second print run card only varies with the original first print run card by having a noticeably darker printing of color. The second print run card is pictured followed by the first print run card back with a lighter, violet purple color that matches the other bonus card backs.

20
. The series contains the second 'See-Through' GPK Header, but only the bottom portion; cards 7a "DREW Drool" and 7b "Flood TED " -- though this was not an intentional idea by the artist and done at Topps during the final prep stages. ANS5 contains cards 31a "Turntable TIM" and 31b "Dee-Jay JASON" where the complete header is see-through.

21.
The "Wanted" Posters theme is used for the backs of the GPK cards, along with new "Identification" (ID) Cards, both highly nostalgic of the original series GPK sets. Card back 19a with the "ID" card "Skull & Cones" is a parody reference to the supposed Cross & Bones secret society of President Bush's. Pictured below are the "Wanted" poster for card 42a "Wanted for Motor Oil Theft : Tusky TIFFANY" and the ID card for 54b "Anti-Social Security : ADAM Bomb" cards.

22
. The second series to have a series Checklist titled and outlined with the blue Color, as with the ANS6 set (similar to the Wacky Package checklist theme minus the yellow). The base set checklist has 3 rows rather than two rows because of the additional titles of the mega set. Also, the second series to have an insert checklist containing the GPK logo and header. Both, the regular checklist and the insert checklist have the 'name' listed in bold.
Activity card #8 "Booger KEN" is mispelled as "Booker KEN" on the insert checklist and #9 "Snakes in Dwayne", plural, is listed in the singular "Snake in Dwayne" on the checklist.

23. Bonus stickers B2 "CARL Wreck" and B5 "Tongue Tied TARA" contain No 'Peel Here' Arrows on the sticker card. The promo cards never contain 'peel here' arrows since they are only card stock and not stickers.

24. Two Puzzles Borders contain two new colors, light blue and light pink.

25. The (Loco) Motion and Jig-Saw Puzzle cards are new insert themes for the ANS7 set; with the motion cards animated by Colin Walton. The Activity (Action Punch Out) and Pop-Ups cards have been used in previous ANS releases.

26. The Card Back of card 14b for "GPK Elementary School Hall Monitor" has the OS 9th series 355a "Beasty BOYD" character mis-spelled as "Beastly BOYD". The ID card back of card 19a for "Skull & Cones" has the 'secret number' as 'I844 - I1' = "I ate 44 - I won" (Number of Cones Eaten: 44).

Ten can be found within the base set while one is a unpublished ANS5 piece completed by Brent Engstrom that is intended to be a bonus card (see 'Comprehensive Checklist' for more information). ANS7 card #48 was first painted by Mark Pingitore himself and later finished by Brent Engstrom; the cookie top contains a "G" instead of the parodied "O" for OREO name.

19a "Ice COLE" and 19b "Stuck BUCK"
(hat added; light fixture added to pole; Kid holding a lightbulb; and background added for final artwork)

31a "Lyin' RYAN" and 31b "Tall Tale TIM"
(growing nose through head (with brain) instead of through heart; and Giminy Cricket added to final artwork)

33a "Wash JOSH" and 33b "HANS Soap"
(blood and innards replaced with snot and bugs; Kid's direction changed for final artwork)

38a "Drum KIT" and 38b "Tom TOM"
(drum sitting on floor; Kid straddling drum; background "Osaka" group added to final artwork)

B1 "Leaky LESLIE"
(fountain made more abstract, incorporating kid into fountain and drowning; eye added to water for final artwork)

B6 "GEORGE Clowny"
(more 'Bozo' with hat than 'Cookie'-like, several circus characters added for final artwork)

13. Artist Jay Lynch was Commisioned by Topps To Create the special insert cards; the Action Punch Outs (Activity cards) and the Lenticular Loco Motion (or Flix-Pix) cards; animated by Colin Walton. Lynch completed the final artwork himself for the insert cards with both Jay and Neil Camera working in Photoshop to color them. Lynch also worked on all of the "Wanted" posters and "ID" card back concept roughs and Neil completed all of the final artwork.

14. Non-Sport Updates "The Encyclopedia" Book encompasses non-sport and entertainment trading cards from 1985 - 2006, with information collated by Todd Jordan, outlined and listed in alphabetical order. The impressive card-bible includes great Topps parody sets such as Garbage Pail Kids, Wacky Packages and Trash Can Trolls as well as Comic Images' Meanie Babies set. Volume I covers the GPK sets for the OS1 - OS15 and ANS1 - ANS5 thus far.

15. Uncut GPK Sheets were auctioned off of eBay through the Topps Vault in the Winter of 2008, right after the ANS7 release in December 2007 and January 2008. A front image of the base cards for the All-New Series 7 GPK set.

16.
The official Topps Preliminary Checklist released with the press kits contain no GPK names, only TBD -- to be determined, so the following information was taken from the preliminary 'card A' test sheet seen at the Philly card show convention in Allentown, PA during October 2007. Several preliminary card names were changed for the final release: 4a "Knife SETH" (knife set) became 4a "Knifin' IVAN", 7a "Deluge LOU" (deluge = a great flood) became 7a "DREW Drool", 12a "Tangled TYLER" or "Mangled MANNY" became 12a "VINNY Son", 18a "Rolled RAYMOND" became 12a "COOPER Pooper".

17.
Legendary GPK artist John Pound joined forces with Craze One.Clothing in the summer of 2008 to create exclusive screenprinted Vinyl Stickers parodying the GPK card craze. Card 1a was ready for release in August of 2008 and other vinyl cards are planned to follow. It's interesting to note that the picture found within NSU's article has the card named "ADAM White" instead of "ADAM B. Good".

(Above : Card "1a" and CrazeOne's promotional picture; Below : Non-Sport Update article)

18.
Besides the B6 "GEORGE Clowny" bonus card, the original intended Bonus Cards were 37a "Extra CHRISTIE" and 37b "Chick KEN", 44a "Breakin' BRANDON" and 44b "BUSTER move", 48a "DEL icious" and 48b "Licked VIC", 51a "BILLY Bling" and 51b "GIL Grill" and 53a "TRISH Washer" and 53b "REESE cycle".
